Y'aa'aa'teh and Welcome to AKM Records...
Hello my name is Anthony K. Maloney (a.k.a.) ShadowFace. I am Native American from Tuba City, AZ., which is located on the Dine'h Reservation. I call it the land of the Red Sands, but it is mostly a desert barren land with colorful Platues and Mesas.
I began writing lyrics and composing music back in the early 1990's, when i got my first guitar. I started out by playing along with tapes and reading guitar tablature. I did not know a thing about music theory and to this day i still don't know any music theory. As a child, I use to sit and watch my family get together and have little gospel jam sessions, they would be singing and joking around, but it was interesting to watch. Later on as I grew a bit older, my brothers began to play the guitar. Rock 'n' Roll was their flavor. I remember watching my brother play a tune from Bon Jovi. I was impressed and tried to learn, but my fingers were too clumsy and too damn small, so I didn't bother with the guitar. When I got to Jr. High School, my brother Jon had this kick ass black guitar(Fender Strat), man he cherrished that thing. I use to sit there and play that guitar and try to learn songs, but never got that far. I recieved my first guitar one christmas and I played that thing for hours at a time. I learned Heavy Metal licks and riffs, trying to be a bad dude. I challenged myself to learn that instrument, I also practiced singing at the same time. At that time, friends and family had to shut their ears, sometimes I was told to turn it down. It sounded good to me though. The guitar was my companion from then on. I hope you enjoy this site and maybe you can give some feed back on my music and writings. Thank You and God Bless. Anthony k. Maloney
ShadowFace...
I am a lone musician, but once in a great while i will come across a musician that i will jam with. I cut a few tracks with my friend Dennis and Leland, but other than that I am in need of a few serious musicians to get things together.
I am to stick to my Native American Roots and I am speaking out to the younger generation, so they can get a hold of the reality of life and find ways to keep their tradition alive.
Why this name?
Like I said before, i am a lone musician and once in a while i will find someone to join forces with to cut a tract or two.
Do you play live?
I have not gone live yet, but plan to in the near future. I am still working on getting songs together, so I can display a good show and my talent. I am more of a studio musician, maybe because I haven't quite broke the shell of playing live, well, i don't have enough musicians to create a show with. Until I can find some serious musicians, I am going to stay where I am, the studio...
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It allows a vast amount of people to gaze through different styles of music, let alone experience the music before they purchase. Its a good way to launch your music out there with out the embarrassment and it is good for getting pointers form others who listen.
Would you still sign a record contract with a major label?
Not at this time, but in the future if my music is good enough for the human ears, maybe then iwill reconsider.
Band History:
Not much of a band history, but I have played with a few good Native American Musicians. Most of these guys are back in Arizona and I am here in Seattle. Some day i will come across them again. Maybe then the music will grow wings and fly.
Your influences?
As a child i was brought up around a lot of rock and roll oldies and a good mixture of old country. So this is where my style is. Now days i am jammin more of the blues, stuff like Indigenous, Jonny Lang, Eric Clapton, and all the other good stuff. I am sticking with the Native part of my music though, so most of all I stick with Indigenous's style of playing.
Favorite spot?
Navajo Nation, Tuba City, AZ. This is my stomping ground. A lot of music coming out of this little town. This is music city.
Anything else...?
Even though I play the cheap guitars, the music will still be heard. The music must play on...
